VLT odds and payouts
Provinces publish payout as a long-run percentage of money wagered. It describes the whole network over time, not your next session1.
Payout by province
Manitoba: games pay out a cumulative average of 93% of money wagered across the whole network1.
Saskatchewan: standards require a payout between 90 and 93 per cent2.
Newfoundland and Labrador: the regulations set a range of 80% to 96% of money accepted, over time3.
Prince Edward Island: the regulations (2014 consolidation) require games to pay out at least 80% of amounts wagered4.
Bets and prizes
Manitoba bets range from 5 cents to $2.50, with top prizes up to $2,500 depending on the game and the bet5.
Saskatchewan has no single top prize; each game's help screen shows the maximum win per spin6.
Quebec's 2016 plan listed a $2.50 maximum bet and prizes capped at $1,000; these may have changed7.
What it means for you
A payout percentage is a long-run average. In the short run anything can happen, and the odds favour the house8.
